A major American reseller site The RealReal has announced the launch of a project with the Italian luxury brand Gucci. The Gucci x TRR online store will appear on The RealReal platform, which specializes in second-hand luxury goods, by the end of the year.
The store will sell items from the brand, both hosted by the Italian fashion house and by third-party sellers.
Julie Wainwright, the founder of The RealReal, says the idea is to support the sustainability trend. Gucci is taking steps to increase the lifespan of luxury garments by launching a collection of garments made from recycled materials for the sake of sustainability. In addition, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Gucci items on The RealReal will be used by One Tree Planted to plant new trees (one tree will be planted per resale).
It should be noted that Gucci is one of the most sought-after luxury brands on The RealReal, and the demand for the brand on the reseller's website continues to grow (19% this year). The resale price of Gucci products on The RealReal is 2,3 times higher than the average resale value of luxury brands on the site.
It is also worth noting that the used clothing and footwear market continues to grow rapidly. The success of The RealReal project, which was founded in 2011, is proof of this. Today it is one of the world's largest players in the second hand market. The company owns two stores in Manhattan, and another in Los Angeles, but most of its products are sold online. In 2018, The RealReal sold over $ 700 million in luxury goods, with revenues of $ 207 million.
РанееWe wrote that Zalando, the largest online store in Europe, which sells exclusively fashion products, has added a section of used clothing Zalando Pre-owned. The main idea is that Zalando customers can exchange clothes and shoes that they no longer wear for new ones.
