Karl Lagerfeld died in Paris

One of the most significant fashion designers in the world, Karl Lagerfeld, died in Paris. He was 85 years old. Over a seventy-year career in the fashion world, Lagerfeld has created collections for the famous houses of Chanel and Fendi, the permanent creative director of which he remained until his death. The designer also built his own brand, unparalleled in the luxury segment.

The director of the Chanel design studio and the closest associate of Lagerfeld, who has been working with him for 30 years, will take control of the creative component of the Fashion House.

“Thanks to his creative genius, generosity and exceptional intuition, Karl Lagerfeld was ahead of his time, which contributed greatly to the success of the Chanel House worldwide,” said Alan Wertheimer, CEO of Chanel House. “Today, I not only lost a friend, but we all lost an extraordinary creative mind, which I gave carte blanche in the early 1980's to re-launch the brand.”

Fashion experts note that in adulthood, Lagerfeld’s talent was even more revealed, his activities became even more ambitious. In the fall'17 season, an 115 foot mechanical rocket ship simulating an explosion was created to demonstrate the collection. In the fall of 2014, he built a Chanel shopping center, in the supermarkets of which were presented more than 500 various products, including a Chanel logo chainsaw, hall mats, sweets and ketchup. In the fall of 2010, he imported enough snow and ice from Sweden to create an indoor iceberg weighing 265 tons. In the spring'19 season, the brand’s collection was presented against the backdrop of an artificial beach, in 2017 a large-scale visualization of the Eiffel Tower was carried out ...

Working at Chanel Fashion House since 1983, Lagerfeld was one of his most prominent creative directors. During this time, Chanel brand has become one of the most famous and sought-after luxury brands in the world. Although the company remains privately owned by brothers Alain and Gerard Wertheimer, Chanel took an unusual step for the first time last year, announcing that its sales were $ 9,6 billion more than Gucci's, and were close to Louis Vuitton's sales. Chanel sales in 2017 year increased by 11%, and operating profit amounted to $ 2,69 billion.

Chanel has disclosed its financials in response to market speculation that the company could be sold. Thus, the company has proven its willingness to remain independent.
