Italian luxury brand Bottega Veneta and English designer Daniel Lee have announced that they have parted ways. Lee presented his first collection for the Italian luxury goods manufacturer in the fall of 2019.
Bottega Veneta CEO Leo Rongone, in a statement, thanked Daniel for his dedication: “He gave Bottega Veneta a fresh look and a new sense of modernity without losing respect for the brand's 50-year heritage. The brand's remarkable growth over the past three years is a testament to the success of its creative endeavors. "
Bottega Veneta marks Lee's first appointment as Creative Director. He came to the brand from Celine Studios, where he was the womenswear director. Lee's first runway collection received mixed reviews - his Bottega Veneta aesthetic was rougher than the one he helped hone at Celine, but his accessories immediately caused a splash, writes Vogue. The buttery leather Pouch bag sparked the trend for soft-textured leather handbags, and his square-toed pumps and sandals had a strong influence on shoe fashion.
“My time at Bottega Veneta was incredible. I am grateful to have worked with an exceptional and talented team and I am eternally grateful to everyone who was part of creating our vision. Thanks to François-Henri Pinault for his support and for the opportunity to become part of the history of Bottega Veneta, ”says Daniel Lee. The message from the fashion house also says that a "new creative direction" for the house will be announced soon.
