The Spanish fashion designer and founder of the luxury shoe brand, Manolo Blahnik, launched the first collection of men's shoes back in the 1970's. Now he opens his first boutique for men in the London Burlington Arcade gallery and expects that men's shoes will take about 20% of his business, writes worldfootwear.com.
The Manolo Blahnik brand is well-known first of all for its elegant high-heeled women's shoes, which gained enormous popularity largely due to the success of the American television series Sex in the City, filmed in the early 2000's.
However, now the designer has decided to expand the audience of his consumers and he is going to start by opening a boutique in London, where only male models will be presented. The opening of the boutique is scheduled for July 5. “I always sewed shoes for men, but only five or six of my clients went to my women's boutique,” the designer says, adding that over the past two years, a huge number of men have asked him about men's shoes.
By the opening of the boutique, 35 of new models of men's shoes will be released, including models with zebra prints, loafers with a top made of pony leather, and deserts made from raffia hand-knitted.
The designer would like 20% of his business to occupy men's shoes, which could take him several years.
