Maratex curbs trade in Ukraine

The Polish company Empik Media & Fashion Group is not interested in continuing to operate in the retail clothing and footwear market due to low financial performance. In this regard, the Maratex company belonging to it is closed in Ukraine. She is currently negotiating the sale of Esprit and River Island chains. As of the end of 2013, the company had ten stores (OVS, Esprit and River Island) in Ukraine.

Empik Media & Fashion Group distributes various products and develops retail chains. As of the end of September 2013, the group had 632 stores, including outlets selling clothing and footwear (Esprit, GAP, Aldo, River Island, OVS, Converse), Smyk children's goods, Empik books, and Speak language schools. Up. Sales in the nine months of 2013 were $ 719 million.

EM&F announced the possibility of closing their fashion segment back in the fall of last year. In 2013, EM&F restructured its brand portfolio, resulting in the termination of contracts with four companies (Aldo, Orsay and Tally Weijl, as well as Peacocks due to bankruptcy). It should be noted that in Ukraine the OVS and Maratex networks did not operate under the franchise system.

Recall that Maratex was founded in 2006 as a result of the merger of the Russian BTI-Systems (clothing brands Esprit, Peacocks and Lulu Castagnette) and Baza (Ukrainian franchisee Esprit).
