A large Ural distributor, Mila - Shoes Wholesale, automated the unloading of balances in retail stores using bar codes into its management program.

The advantage of this unloading is the integration of balances and sales of a certain set of retail stores. This increases the statistical reliability of the information received.

Owning an 100% picture of sales dynamics is very convenient for a wholesaler and is quite applicable for retail, the company said. Already, Mila is ready to offer its partners information on the seasonality of certain subgroups of shoes, which, in turn, makes it possible, on the basis of turnover within the season, to give recommendations on the optimal terms for markdowns. In order to get out of the season with zero balances, it is important for the store to detect and sell illiquid assets, while buyers are still very interested in this group. For example, a comparison of the data showed that in 2013, the start of sales in the “half-sneakers” subgroup in retail relative to wholesale was delayed by 10 days. Thus, by analyzing the dynamics of distributor trade, one can make a forecast for the next retail sales and either strengthen purchases of goods or stop and search for illiquid assets.

The magnitude of the lag in retail sales from wholesale may vary depending on the season or subgroup of shoes, so monitoring the dynamics must be carried out constantly, Mila representatives say.
