OR Group (Obuv Rossii Group of Companies), which develops the chain of stores and the Westfalika online marketplace, has implemented a disaster recovery model for the corporate IT system, which will allow the company to ensure data protection from hypothetically dangerous risks and emergency situations.
In this case, the information stored in the databases of the emergency site will be duplicated (replicated) in the backup data centers without loss. The implementation of the project was carried out by the forces of its own IT service and took six months, including system testing, failover, simulation of emergency situations and monitoring of the system's response.
The main goal of the project is to ensure the reliability and availability of the company's financial and online services, as well as the operability of a distributed IT system, to which more than 600 of its own stores are connected throughout the country, a platform for interaction with suppliers and a marketplace.
The OR Group information system is based in three geo-distributed data centers located in Novosibirsk, Khabarovsk and Moscow. Data safety is ensured in all major systems of the group, such as support of financial services, interaction with marketplace suppliers, remote customer service (online connection of individuals and online loans).
“The system of disaster recovery allows ensuring the reliability of data storage and not interrupting business processes in the event of emergency situations, which include natural and man-made disasters, as well as the occurrence of internal system errors. If
one of the data centers fails, further work is carried out on the basis of backup data centers, while switching occurs automatically, unnoticed by users. This is how we increase the reliability of the IT system, ensure the continuity of work and the stability of the company's services, ”comments Dmitry Karpenko, IT Director of OR GROUP.
In May-June, the group purchased and installed additional equipment - a Fujitsu network attached storage, which allowed the company to increase the performance of its IT system by 120% and the actual
storage volume by 40%, and also significantly increased the level of fault tolerance of all operating IT-systems and reduced the risk of data loss in the event of a disaster.
