According to the Russian Union of Shopping Centers (RSTC), in June this year, the attendance of shopping centers in Moscow decreased by 30% compared to the traffic figures in June 2019. Landlord income fell by 15-20%, TASS reports.
The reason for the sharp decline in traffic to shopping centers in the capital in June 2021 is the new coronavirus restrictions that apply to food courts and children's rooms. The shopping centers managed to return to pre-crisis indicators only in May, - says Oleg Voitsekhovsky, managing director of the RSTC.
In his opinion, if the situation continues to develop in the same direction, then a real threat of termination of the activities of most of the small and medium-sized businesses that lease premises in shopping centers is possible. It is noted that last year the rental income of the capital's shopping centers decreased by 50%. According to the expert's forecast, the recovery of the industry may take up to three years.
