Germany's Puma, dreaming of catching up on sales to its main competitors Nike and Adidas, will launch a line of biodegradable athletic shoes and apparel in an effort to minimize environmental impact.
The new Puma collection, which goes on sale in 2013, will include biodegradable sneakers and T-shirts, as well as jackets and backpacks made from recyclable materials. All of these products at the end of their service life can be returned to the store for processing.
Puma chief executive Franz Koch said the German company has produced a “small collection” of 22 products, while discarding any sales predictions.
