According to the international audit and consulting network FinExpertiza, in the second quarter of 2020, the income of 4,6 million Russians who were formally employed decreased, the Izvestia newspaper writes.
Of this number, 2,4 million workers were forced to take unpaid leave during the period of quarantine restrictions on Covid-19. 1,23 million people worked part-time.
As a result, 6,2% of employees faced a reduction in wages, which is the highest figure for the last 7 years (since 2013). According to Rosstat, in April-June 2020, the number of unemployed in Russia was 4,47 million, which corresponds to 6% of the working population. Thus, in the midst of the pandemic, underemployment exceeded official unemployment.
“If we sum up the number of employees at a reduced rate and vacationers without wages with obvious unemployed, in the II coronavirus quarter they did not have a job or formally retained their jobs, but more than 9 million able-bodied Russians lost their usual earnings, that is, over 12% of the workforce,” they note at FinExpertiza.
