Just under a year ago, Israeli Environment Minister Gila Gamliel called the fur industry "immoral", announcing her intention to make the sale of fur for fashionable purposes illegal. The new decree prohibiting the sale of fur products, which was signed by the minister, was supported by 86% of the Israeli population.
The announcement to ban the sale of fur products in Israel followed a similar announcement made by the state of California in 2009. In California, the sales ban will go into effect in 2023.
