Mexico ramps up shoe exports amid US-China trade war
According to the results of the year, the growth of footwear exports in Mexico may amount to more than 50% and reach by the end of 2002 the volume from 32 million to 35 million pairs. Alfredo Padilla Villalpando, President of the Chamber of Footwear Industry of Guanajuato (CICEG), said that the prediction was that Mexico benefited from the trade war between the US and China.
Mexico exported 29 million pairs of shoes to the US last year, worth $632 million.
At the same time, according to CICEG, the production of shoes in Mexico has not yet reached the level of footwear production before the pandemic. In Guanajuato, the region where most of the footwear industry is concentrated, 2022 million pairs are expected to be produced by the end of 220, down 12% from the 250 million pairs produced in 2019.
According to the World Footwear 2022 yearbook, Mexico is the second non-Asian country to make it into the top 9 footwear manufacturers (after Brazil), ranking 0,9th with a global share of XNUMX%.
