Production of sports shoes in 2011 year increased by 15%

In November 2011, DISCOVERY Research Group completed a study of the sports goods market in Russia.

The market of sports goods in the world is considered one of the largest, its volume in 2011 approaches $ 200 billion. Sports goods in the world are represented by three categories: sports shoes, sportswear and sports equipment. A large share of the global market is sports equipment ($ 40 billion).

The volume of the Russian sporting goods market is $ 2 billion.

Gradually, the production of sports goods is increasing. So, for example, in 2011, the production of sports shoes increased by 15% compared to 2010, and sportswear by 25%. The production of sports equipment in Russia is poorly developed: almost all goods are imported.

The volume of imports in value terms for the seven months of the 2011 year amounted to 214472,3 thousand dollars. The volume of exports in value terms for the same period is equal to 5186,6 thousand dollars.

The main retailers on the Russian sports goods market are Sportmaster, Sportlandia, a subsidiary of it, and Intersport. The total number of retail outlets of these companies in Russia exceeds 360.

Among monobrand manufacturers, Nike takes the lead, followed by Adidas, Reebok and Puma.

According to experts, the sporting goods market in Russia has the potential for development. Various factors contribute to its development, an important role among which is played by political, economic and social.

The most important trends include changes in marketing strategies, the implementation of joint production projects, and the growth of counterfeit products.
