Over the past month, the export of unprocessed hides from the country has sharply increased. As a result, enterprises involved in leather processing and the production of shoes and other leather products experienced an acute shortage of raw materials. This is stated in the appeal sent by the Russian Union of Tanners and Shoemakers to the Government of the Russian Federation. Industry representatives fear that if the ban is not introduced within 1 – 2 months, domestic producers will be forced to cut production or even leave the market.
“According to our calculations, out of 170 thousand tons of untreated leather that are harvested in Russia, 40 thousand tons are exported. And now these 130 tons, which remained with us, began to rapidly flow away. Apparently, our commodity dealers do not want to sell for rubles, ”says Alexandra Andrunakievich, general director of the Russian Union of Leatherworkers and Shoemakers. According to her, domestic prices for leathers have jumped from 65 to 100 rubles per 1 kg.
According to the shoe makers, the supply of raw materials decreased by 30%, so they had to cut footwear production by a third.
