Significant increase in retail space expected in Moscow this year

In 2019 in Moscow, 289 thousand square meters of high-quality retail space is expected to be commissioned, which is two times more than the opening of new trading floors in the Moscow region in 2018, according to a study by real estate research company JLL. 

In 2018, 123 thousand square meters of retail space was commissioned in Moscow. The study notes that this indicator is historically record low. In the 1 half of the 2018 of the year, the Kashirskaya Plaza shopping center (71 thousand square meters), the Milia shopping center in Zhulebin (19 thousand square meters), and the Petrovsky shopping center (8,5 thousand square meters) were opened . In the fourth quarter, the Arena Plaza shopping center (17 thousand square meters) and the Krasnoprudny shopping center (about 7 thousand square meters) began work.  

Among the objects, the opening of which was postponed from 2018 of the year to the present, are the shopping center "Island of Dreams", TPU "Rasskazovka", the shopping center "Galleon", and the 2-th turn of the shopping center "Smolensky Passage". New areas will appear in the shopping centers "Salaris" and "Island of Dreams."  

According to the results of the 2018 year, the vacancy in the retail real estate sector of Moscow fell to the minimum 5,2% over the past five years. Compared to the same period of 2017, the indicator decreased by 1 pp In 2019, taking into account the expected commissioning of retail space, the vacancy rate will increase slightly - up to 5,8%.
