The production of felt boots and their varieties is growing in Russia
According to the “Honest Sign” labeling system, over 9 months of this year more than 670 thousand felt boots were produced in Russia. The increase in production volumes of these shoes in the third quarter of 2023 was 62% compared to the figures for the second quarter of 2023 and amounted to 302 thousand pairs.
The Yaroslavl, Nizhny Novgorod regions and the Republic of Tatarstan are in the lead in the ranking of Russian regions producing felt boots. About 98% of sales of felt boots come from retail, but online sales are also growing. The average price of a pair of felt boots is 1332 rubles. But there are also more expensive models. For example, a pair of sewn high boots from the Kiez brand with rubber or EVA soles costs up to 3800 rubles. The Kiez assortment also includes short sewn felt boots in bright, fashionable colors and felt house slippers. And on the Wildberries marketplace you can even find felted sneakers from the Covalenki brand.
In Russia, more and more varieties of felted shoes are appearing, which have their own admirers.

Back in 2014, an entrepreneur from St. Petersburg, Kirill Vasiliev, launched the production of a modernized version of short felt boots with rubber soles, shaped like Scandinavian clogs. Shoes under the SNEGI brand are produced at a factory in the Pskov region and sold throughout the country and even abroad. This year the company continues to actively develop and is finding new sales channels.
“After the lockdown, we relied on online, but now there is a noticeable increase in offline trade. For us, this is an unexpected return to our roots - at the beginning of the company’s activities, the main sales channel was New Year’s markets. Now we see great demand for SNEGI in home improvement stores. Many brands have left the market, buyers and buyers are looking for a quality alternative. Marketplaces provide a significant increase - a completely natural process, user habits have changed, today many are actively buying on Wildberries, Ozon, Yandex Market, etc.,” comments SNEGI founder and CEO Kirill Vasiliev. This December, for the New Year holidays, the company is preparing a surprise in the form of a new collection, which will include models created using modernized production technology.
