New exhibition projects in Asia and the Middle East

More than 800 buyers from 43 countries registered at the second Expo Riva Schuh Middle East, which took place at the Sharjah Expo Center (UAE) on February 9-11, 2009. The event was the result of a partnership between the Italian organization Riva del Garda Fierecongressi Spa, which is hosting Expo Riva Schuh in Italy, and the Sharjah Expo Center. The second exhibition was attended by 150 companies from 19 countries. The Italians had the most representative delegation - 22 companies, followed by India, China and Pakistan

The organizers, with some caution, said that they were satisfied with the results of the exhibition. She has every chance to become the main platform of the Middle East for meetings of manufacturers and sellers of shoes. And although distribution in the UAE is still just being built, the market is still limited by a relatively small number of wholesalers and importers, but the dynamics are pleasing. The professionalism of trading companies is growing, as well as the number of specialized stores (although most shoes are still sold through unorganized trading).

“Thanks to our partnership with the Italian Institute of Foreign Trade (ICE),” says Brigitte Buncher, Expo Riva Schuh's exhibition manager, “we invited 120 top buyers from the Middle East and former Soviet republics to the exhibition. The buyers were accompanied by trade analysts who helped them navigate the exhibition and choose the most interesting offers.

"The results of the second exhibition Expo Riva Schuh Middle East confirmed the necessity and effectiveness of our international project," said Roberto Pellegrini, President of Riva del Garda Fierecongressi Spa. "Moreover, we are now considering organizing similar projects in other places where the footwear business is still developing."

The importance of the exhibition for both Italy and the Emirates is evidenced by the fact that it was opened by Italian Ambassador to the UAE Paolo Dionisi, ICE representative Francesco Alfonsi, Advisor to the Deputy Minister for Economics of the Italian Parliament Adolfo Urso and President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Sharjah Ahmed Mohammed Al Midfa.

“Now many new shopping centers are being built in the country, which means that in the near future, sellers will have another millions of square meters of retail space,” said Ahmed Mohammed Al Midfa, “this opens up tremendous opportunities for shoe distributors.” For reference, to date, only in Dubai about 4,2 million square meters. m is given to trade. By the end of 2010, this number will increase to 16,3 million square meters. m

It should be noted that another b2b footwear exhibition Footwear Expo 2009 will take place in Dubai in autumn. The exhibition is organized by the national operator Orange Fairs & Events and will be held on November 2-4 at the Crowne Plaza hotel. Manufacturers of men's, women's, children's, special and sports footwear, as well as leather goods are expected to take part in the exhibition. The price segment of the products is medium and high.

The number of b2b exhibitions in Asia will also increase. For the first time this year, a professional footwear exhibition will be held in India: fMM & T 2009 is scheduled for May 8-10, the venue is Expo XXI in New Delhi. The need for the event is obvious: India has the second largest footwear production in the world, producing more than 2 billion pairs of shoes a year. At the same time, only 115 million pairs of shoes are exported. The organizers of the exhibition expect that the event will become a meeting place for manufacturers and importers and will expand the export boundaries for Indian footwear. Exhibitors from Brazil, China, Hong Kong, Italy, Spain and Taiwan have already confirmed their participation in the exhibition. The exhibition is held under the patronage of the directorate of the largest Chinese consumer goods exhibition APLF and with the participation of the Indian Footwear Manufacturers Association (IFCOMA).
