Turkish Question
There are no clothes and footwear on the list of Turkish goods that the Russian government has banned from importing into the country, but the market has already felt tension. What place does Turkish fashion occupy in the Russian market and how seriously can possible sanctions affect it?
According to Elena Klyucharova, consultant of the market research department of CBRE, today there are about 11 mono-brand Turkish chains in Russia, most of which are clothing (Colin's, Koton, Mavi, LC Waikiki). In addition, Turkish brands are widely represented in the assortment of multi-brand stores and showrooms.
Anna Lebsak-Kleimans, CEO of Fashion Consulting Group, believes that there are not so many Turkish retailers represented in our country. “The main trade turnover with Turkey is provided by brands that are sold in bulk through online stores, showrooms, and directly delivered from factories,” she said.
The share of brands sold through their own stores in the total turnover of clothing and footwear produced in Turkey is no more than 10-15% of the total sales of Turkish clothing and footwear. The main turnover is provided by goods manufactured by order of large shoe and clothing retailers - the share of goods manufactured in Turkey, from individual retailers can reach up to 20% of all orders. Also, a significant role is played by wholesales of numerous brands, which are sold in bulk through dealerships and showrooms, and then through a lot of small multi-brand retailers.
“In 2014, two new Turkish brands appeared on the Russian market - Penti (accessories) and Derimod (clothing and footwear). In October this year, another fashion-operator DeFacto was opened in the Mega shopping and entertainment center. Among the brands announced for release in 2016-2017. there are no Turkish networks. It is likely that even if such plans were made by potential new players, they will be significantly revised in favor of other developed markets, ”suggests Elena Klyucharova. As of November 2015, none of the existing Turkish brands has left the Russian market. According to the expert, the most active Turkish retail will begin to respond to the current situation in early 2016, and a number of brands will be forced to leave the country.
