China, India and Italy top the list of the largest shoe manufacturers in the world, said Pierre Paulo Cicco, head of the international marketing department at the Association of Italian shoe manufacturers.
This association is promoting the main Italian shoe exhibition MICAM, which takes place in Milan twice a year. Other major shoe manufacturers, according to the Italian association, are South Korea, Russia and Brazil.
And yet, according to Cicco, when it comes to quality, luxury, design and fashion, Italian shoes are the leaders in the world market.
According to statistics from the Trade Representation of Italy, in 2015, sales of designer shoes worldwide amounted to 6%, and in 2014 year - 7%.

According to Cicco, Italy today produces tens of millions of pairs of shoes per year, worth about 14 billion euros, up to 85% of these products are exported. In total, about 5000 shoe factories operate in the country, most of which are small and medium-sized enterprises, employing more than 15 thousand people.
Despite the fact that the footwear industry itself accounts for about 2% of Italian GDP, this is a very important component of the Made in Italy brand.
The leading importers of Italian shoes are France, the USA, Germany, Switzerland, the UK and the UAE, while the latter is the fastest growing market.
“In the past few years, sales of Italian shoes in the UAE have risen sharply, reaching around 2015, 135 million euros in 5. Compared to the 2014 indicators of the year, they increased by 7,9% and amounted to 7,2% of the market, ”said Janpaulo Bruno, Italy's sales representative in the UAE, Oman and Pakistan.
According to the international agency Euromonitor, in 2015 in the UAE about 48% of women's shoes, 19% of men's and 33% of children's shoes were sold.
